We are seeking someone to lend a set of hands to help me repair pvc irrigation fittings, lower the existing gal risers (cut & thread with electric machines), and reposition some air valves. Due to the drought and having been priced out of the temporary water market, we haven’t irrigated in over 2 years. It isn’t hard or heavy work (I will endeavour to have everything dug up before you get here), but it will need reasonable fitness (some digging but thankfully it’s sandy loam, lots of kneeling and working below ground level-standing-reaching) and endurance, and will be in full sun (weather depending obviously!).
They’re just jobs I can’t do on my own. Knowledge of irrigation systems / high pressure plumbing / Thompson centrifugal pressure pumps / monsoon, naan and rain spray sprinklers would be fantastic, but not essential. Again, weather depending, we are hoping to sow in the last week of April, so I’m aiming to have it done before Easter.
Should you want to stay on (or come back!) there is a myriad of general bits and pieces to be done, ranging from fixing the eaves and gutters on the house to small engine maintenance. And high on the ‘never likely to get to it’ wish list is a vege garden. To date the kids and I scatter seeds around the house yard fence and hope for the best!
In return, we can offer accommodation in our caravan (not a deluxe edition by any stretch, but it does the job and has great AC), or feel free to bring your own. There is water, power, grass etc at the sheds, or if you are set up to ‘free camp’ we have some beautiful bush land that fronts the Murray river. We have kayaks, or if you have a boat licence you are welcome to use our tinny. Similarly, a friendly dog or horse would be welcome; we have one kelpie.
You would be more than welcome to join us for meals, but be warned I’m no chef, and with a 2yo and 3yo underfoot meal times, temperature and volume vary! Nearest town Tocumwal NSW start 19th March 2020.
