We are a family of 5 on a small cattle property on the mid north coast of NSW. We have had a bit of a rough run with natural disasters lately, experiencing fires and major floods over the last 2 years. We would like to go away for a planned holiday, and unfortunately our elderly parents aren’t up for the whole 3+ weeks of looking after the farm/animals.
We have approx 50 cattle, with minimal intervention needed, other than making sure they don’t get through fences. We also have pigs, chickens and ducks that need feeding, and a dog and cat that would love some company.
Experience with driving tractors is a plus, just in case you need to do anything while we’re away. Some cattle are hand fed, but we’ll probably set them up with silage before we go. You will also need to know how to run water pumps and possibly do minor fence repairs.
Main jobs are feeding chickens, ducks, pigs, dog and cat daily. Monitoring cattle (in case of birthing) is also needed.
Benefits are: crystal clear river, amazing views, bonfire materials (plenty of flood debris to burn off), peace and quiet, vegetable garden you can raid, and neighbours who will support if needed.
Home has six bedrooms, 2 bathrooms so plenty of room to bring family, or have them come and stay with you while you’re here.
(job available from May 26th 2021)
